Language & Culture
Our role as Language and Culture Instructional Coaches in the Educational Equity Department is to initiate and support change for all students to be successful. Similar to the math and literacy coaches, our efforts are intended to support teachers in closing the achievement gap, though our focus spans all curricular areas.
Language and Culture Professional Development may be offered through a variety of models. We can work with your faculty, grade level, department, collaborative group or individually. If you are interested in support to better meet the needs of your linguistically, racially or culturally diverse students, contact us. Specific areas of focus may be:
- Culturally Proficient Teaching - developing knowledge, skills and attitudes to better connect the academic world to the personal experience of each student
- Multicultural Education - incorporating materials and lessons that support the development of pluralism and understanding of all perspectives
- Asset Oriented Teaching - capitalizing on the cultural and linguistic assets that diverse students bring into the classroom to increase student learning
- The SIOP Model - sheltering your content so it is accessible to English Learners
