César Chávez Poster Contest 2009

In March of 2009 the Educational Equity Department coordinated the district's first annual César Chávez poster contest. 211 students district-wide from kindergarten through 12th grade created paintings, essays, collages, poems and illustrations in response to the theme "César Chávez, Leader of the People." The posters were clearly products of students who understood and respected the vital role César Chávez played in the advancement of the rights of farm workers and in the struggle for the overall advancement of universal human rights.

Grand prize poster winners were recognized in March at the16th Annual César Chávez Banquet (sponsored by the Utah Coalition for La Raza) and an open house gallery stroll of all 211 posters was held at Northwest Middle School on May 7, 2009.

Special thank yous to Frank Cordova, Robert "Archie" Archuleta and the Utah Coalition of La Raza  for their support and involvement. And to Ellie Brady and our fine panel of judges--Yvonne Anderson, Ruby Chacón, David Martinez, Mariana Suarez and Alicia Suazo-- for their time, energy and expertise.
