Testing for Middle School ELP placements for the 2012-13 School Year

Scheduled testing dates and locations for any 6th and 7th grade student who resides within the boundaries of Salt Lake City School District, including students who are home-schooled or are currently attending charter or private schools, are as follows:  

The 2012-13 middle school testing window is closed after December 2. There are NO make-up dates beyond December 2 for students living within the district boundaries who miss the scheduled testing dates. Seventh grade students currently in ELP programs do not need to re-test for 8th grade placement.

No pre-registration is necessary. Students should arrive at the above locations by 1:00 to register for testing. Testing begins promptly at 1:30 and lasts until approximately 5:00, with breaks included. Students may bring a snack for scheduled breaks. Parent(s) should make arrangements for timely pick-up.

Testing for Elementary Magnet ELP placements for the 2012-13 School Year

January 18 through March 16

This is the testing window for students entering kindergarten, first or second grade in August and who reside within the boundaries of district. Testing is by individual appointment and appointments are scheduled beginning January 4, 2012. Call Jann Barrios at 801.578.8573 to schedule a testing session.

All testing will be at the Central City Recreation Center, 615 South 300 East. Download the application and return it to the Extended Learning Department. The completed application may be returned by email as a .pdf attachment (Jann.Barrios@slcschools.org) or by mail (Attn: Jann Barrios).  

February 24 and March 9

These dates are for students entering third through sixth grades in August. Testing is group administration and will be at the Salt Lake City School District offices, 440 East 100 South, from 1:30 to approximately 5:00. Call Jann Barrios at 801.578.8573 to schedule to register.

The last two subtests are untimed, and students will be excused upon completion. Parent(s) should make arrangements for timely pick-up. Download the application and return it to the Extended Learning Department. The completed application may be returned by email as a .pdf attachment (Jann.Barrios@slcschools.org) or by mail (Attn: Jann Barrios).  

For all Elementary Grades

The testing window for Elementary Magnet ELP placements is CLOSED after March 16. There are NO make-up dates beyond March 16.   

Schedule for Spanish-fluent speakers for Emerson’s International Pathways Kindergarten through Sixth ELP placements in 2012-13:

January 17 through April 30: This is the testing window for Spanish-fluent students desiring to test for the dual-language International Pathways ELP magnet program. Testing is by individual appointment, and students are tested in both English and Spanish. Contact the Extended Learning Department, 801.578.8573, after January 4, 2012, to schedule an appointment.

Out-of-District families and Out-of-State families planning to re-locate

March 9 and July 26: These dates are for students whose for families re-locating to Salt Lake City School District or for students residing outside the boundaries of Salt Lake City School District. Testing will be held at the Salt Lake City School District Office, 400 East 100 South.  

Students who have re-located to Salt Lake City School District and are found eligible for ELP services will be notified by the ELP Department prior to the beginning of the 2012-13 school year. Out-of-district students are considered for placement based on space availability and will be notified prior to the beginning of the 2012-13 school year.

Students currently residing in the boundaries of Salt Lake City School District should test during the  scheduled dates listed above and will not be permitted to test during these dates.

Testing for Elementary Neighborhood ELP programs for 2012-13 school year

All third grade students in the district are given the CogAT test in February of each year at their neighborhood school. The results of this assessment are included in their cumulative assessment record and are used as part of the eligibility determination for Neighborhood-ELP services at each elementary school. Neighborhood-ELP services begin in grade 4. Each elementary school convenes a team to determine eligibility for Neighborhood-ELP services in the fall of each school year.
