Written Translator Qualifications

Summary: This position translates required forms and communications to and from target language to provide written communication with parents whose primary language is not English.

Duties and Responsibilities

Essential:

  1. Provides translations to the schools and district departments in a timely manner. May be required to provide translations under extremely tight deadlines in emergency situations.
  2. Revises and updates documents as needed.

Additional:

    1. Performs other related duties as required and assigned.

Qualifications

Essential:

  1. High school diploma or equivalent. Bachelor's degree preferred.
  2. Must pass a standard written test from English into target language.
  3. Native speaker of target language preferred.
  4. Speaks, reads and writes target language and English fluently.
  5. Computer Skills: Uses word processing software, such as Microsoft Word, and spreadsheet software, such as Excel, to basic level.
  6. Has at least 1 year experience translating documents to and from target language and English in a professional setting.
  7. Adaptability: Ability to perform a variety of tasks, often changing assignments on short notice. Copes well with interruptions and changes.
  8. Interpersonal Relations: Maintains effective relationships with others. Uses tact. Is sensitive to feelings and needs of others. Shows ability to solve human grievances.
  9. Stress Management: Maintains stability under pressure
  10. Performs essential duties and responsibilities efficiently, accurately and safely, with or without reasonable accommodation, and without posing a threat of harm to self or others.
  11. Organization skills: Can establish priorities and a course of action for handling multiple tasks.
  12. Initiative: Actively tries to influence events to achieve goals. A self-starter, working well without close supervision. Tries to achieve goals beyond minimal levels of performance.
  13. Has the ability to operate office equipment, such as computer, printer, copier, phone, and fax.

Additional:

  1. Bachelor's degree in a foreign language.
  2. Some written translating experience in a Utah school setting.
