West High's ELP chess team swept the top five individual places to capture West's sixth straight Utah State Junior High School Chess Championship.

May 22, 2006 - Salt Lake City School District bus drivers showed their skill and brought home several trophies from this year's School Bus Road-eo. For the second year in a row, Salt Lake City won the First Place Trophy. The winners are: 1st place - Jerry Smith; 3rd place - Richard Eddington; 4th place - Sundar Sathiyanathan; 5th place - Colby McNee.

May 31, 2006 - Highland High's debate team is a national champion! The team won the policy debate at the National Catholic Forensic League competition. This is the first time a team from Utah has won this competition. Congratulations Highland!

Salt Lake City School District has won a Healthy School Pioneer award from the Utah Action Network for Healthy Kids. The award recognizes the district’s efforts in creating a new health and wellness policy, which is geared toward creating healthy school environments, including more physical activity, education and nutrition education.

November 27, 2006 - Escalante Elementary is now the home of a threatened species of fish. Approximately 200 least chub have been added to the ponds in the school's outdoor classroom. Students will study the fish and their habits over the next few months. Wildlife officials predict the ponds will be a good home for the small fish and there should be thousands of them by spring. » More
