American Stars of TeachingJose Fanjul, a teacher at West High School, was surprised with the American Stars of Teaching Award. The award is given to one teacher in each state by the U.S. Department of Education. Fanjul was not aware he had won the award and was fittingly dressed in costume for Halloween. Fanjul has been at West High for four years and working as a teacher in Utah for 12 years.

American Stars recognizes and honors superior teachers with a track record of improving student achievement, using innovative instructional strategies, and making a difference in the lives of their students. These teachers are highlighted as representatives of the thousands of teachers who are making a difference in the classroom.
