During the week of March 17th, the Thelonius Monk Jazz Institute of Los Angeles brought students from a Chicago performing arts high school and two world famous Jazz artists, Antonio Hart and Lisa Henry to conduct a week long informance and workshop for our Salt Lake City School District high school students. Each day they worked in a different school. On the last day they assisted at Bryant Middle School. The informance was a social studies/music integration instructing the students about the history of Jazz and how Jazz music works. The workshop breakout sessions were directed by the Jazz artists and consisted of a side by side workshop with the high school performing arts students and the district students. This was an amazing experience and we were fortunate to have this opportunity.
