SLCSD Multicultural Arts Festival

May 9, 2008
The Salt Lake City School District Fine Arts Department is holding its first District-wide Multicultural Arts Festival on Wednesday, May 21, 2008 from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the South Campus of the Salt Lake Community College and Grand Theater on 1700 South and State Street.  This festival has been funded through a Federal Learn and Serve grant managed through the Utah State Office of Education and an “in kind” donation of space and support from the Salt Lake Community College and Grand Theater Company. Students district wide have studied a country or culture reflected in their school. They have then created a visual or performing art for the festival. The service is the performance, artwork display and the education the community will receive from the festival.

There will be total of four shows with five to eight schools performing in each show, alternating on the stage of the Grand Theater and in the East Foyer of the Community College.  Students from schools across the district at all levels- elementary, middle, and high school will be performing.  There will be a visual arts exhibit from students across the district as well.  The Career Technical Center will sponsor the sale of food. The district PTA will send volunteers and the Tanner Dance Program staff will help with stage logistics. The University of Utah College of Fine Arts has also supported our efforts.  Donations for the Salt Lake City School District fine arts programs will be accepted by the Salt Lake City Schools Education Foundation. The public is invited.
