Walk on the Wild Side Opens - Schools Garner Ribbons!June 3, 2008

A festive atmosphere prevailed at Friday’s opening of the K-12 Student Art Show.  The Hogle Zoo Auditorium was filled with fabulous student art, combined with music by “Fortisimo,” string quartet, and plenty of refreshments. The number of schools involved and the admiring crowd were double the size of last year’s. Attendees gathered to celebrate their student’s ingenuity in combining a variety of animal studies with service learning and presenting it through visual art.

Individual ribbons were given to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place artwork to high school and middle school students. In addition a number of pieces received honorable mentions. Prize winners were:

People’s Choice Award: “Africa, Africa,” by Highland Park Elementary
Best Collaborative Piece: Uintah Elementary
Hogle Zoo Staff Award: Barbara Johnson’s Class, Beacon Heights Elementary
