Horizonte Instruction and Training Center

Horizonte Instruction and Training Center is a multicultural, ambitiously innovative and comprehensive, multi-campus school whose many flexible programs serve the needs of students throughout the Salt Lake area. Horizonte operates several different programs under the motto “As far as the eye can see, as far as the mind can reach.” Horizonte serves about 800 high school students and 80 intermediate students throughout the year. In Horizonte’s adult high school program more than 2,200 adults of all ages pursue basic literacy, high school diplomas and GED diplomas. Approximately 2,600 persons study English in the English language program throughout the year.

Referral Process for Youth

  • Referral from home school (East, Highland, West, middle schools, etc.) required
  • High school registration with parent/guardian offered every Wednesday: 9 a.m., 10 a.m., or 5 p.m.
  • Intake meeting with student and parent/guardian to decide program placement
  • Required two-day new student orientation every Thursday, Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 12:10

Program for Youth

  • Seven-period day Monday through Friday from 8:20 a.m. - 2:55 p.m.
  • Evening classes available Monday through Thursday 4:30 – 8:30 p.m.
  • Main site or satellite campuses for easy access
  • District Career and Technical Education classes and concurrent Salt Lake Community College classes
  • Math, English, Science and Social Studies curriculum aligned to state core and mapped across grade levels and sites
  • Additional counselor to serve students attending satellite sites
  • Co-teaching model implemented for students receiving special education services
  • Reading strategies, advisory curriculum, and content specific literacy coaching

Young Parent Program

  • Pregnant and parenting teens
  • Day and Evening Classes
  • Prenatal/Child Development Classes
  • On-Site Early Head Start Program for children 0-3 years and Head Start for 3-4 year old children
  • Evening Child Care

Adult High School Completion

  • Day Program:
    • Seven-period day Monday through Friday from 8:20 a.m.- 2:55 p.m.
    • Two-day orientation required - Monday and Tuesday from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
    • High School Adult Basic Education classes
    • High School Completion program with teacher and/or on-line
    • GED preparation
    • $35.00 per 6-8 week session
    • College transition advisor
    • Breakfast and lunch available
  • Night Program:
    • Classes - Monday through Thursday 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
    • Two-day orientation required - Monday and Tuesday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
    • High School Adult Basic Education classes
    • High School Completion program with teacher and/or on-line
    • GED preparation
    • $20.00 per 6-8 week session

Adult English Language Learning Program

  • Day Program:
    • English classes taught at various competency levels
    • Seven-period day Monday through Friday from 8:20 a.m.- 2:55 p.m.
    • Breakfast and lunch available
    • Two-day orientation required: Wednesday and Thursday from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
    • $35.00 per 6-8 week session
  • Night Program:
    • English classes taught at various competency levels
    • Classes - Monday through Thursday 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
    • Two-day orientation required Wednesday and Thursday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
    • $20.00 per 6-8 week session
