The Curriculum & Assessment Lab (C & A) classes are unique settings for the research and development of interactive teaching practices. C & A’s focus is on a highly integrated curriculum that takes into consideration the needs, interests, and backgrounds of the students. Students participate in an interactive and cooperative learning community. They find purpose and meaning in their education as they make learning choices and set their own learning goals. C & A’s multi-age class configurations are: 1st/2nd, 3rd/4th, 5th/6th, and 7th/8th.
C & A classrooms use the district performance results as a framework for fostering student academic, social, and personal responsibility. These six performance results are: Quality Worker and Producer, Effective Communicator, Contributor to the Community, Self Directed Learner, Cooperative Group Participant, and Complex Thinker and Problem Solver. C & A teachers are trained in holistic, integrated curriculum and assessment practices. They engage in research and development of innovative teaching practices to assist the district in establishing benchmarks for student performance.
