Community Education

Dear Community Education Parents/Guardians:

In an effort to address our SLCSD communities’ needs, I want to take this opportunity to update you on our Community Education fall 2020 registration information for our after-school programs.

  • ALL After School Programs Begin (Title 1 and Fee-Based)
    • August 31, 2020
      • Please take note since this has changed as of this school year: 2020-21
  • ALL After School Programs End (Title 1 and Fee-Based)
    • May 28, 2021
      • Please take note since this has changed as of this school year: 2020-21

Tuition Fees:

Community Education After School Programs operate with grant, district, state, and tuition funding. All our programs commence immediately upon the conclusion of the regular school day, operate a minimum of 15 hours per week, and remain open until at least 6:00 PM on every regular school day.

Community Education’s After School Programs have served the SLCSD community for many years. Due to the uncertainty and fluidity of COVID-19 Community Education has had to make some decisions based on the guidelines from the Utah Department of Health, Utah State Board of Education, and the Center for Disease Control (CDC). One of these decisions comes in the form of enrollment. Our goal for enrollment is to accommodate students through a virtual environment and attempt to accommodate physical distancing through a face-to-face environment. We must give preference to students who can meet the enrollment criteria explained in detail below.

Enrollment Criteria:

  • Students are strongly encouraged to attend the program every day until 6:00 PM.
  • Early release from the program can be pre-arranged or arranged the day of the event. Whenever you pick-up your child, prior to the end of program, please be aware that the staff will write by your check-out form one of the codes below.

After School Experience for Special Learners:

The Community Education team wants to assure its participants and their families that every student that comes in  contact with our after-school programs is set up for success. One way to safeguard that objective is to provide reasonable accommodations to ensure that special needs students entering Community Education’s After School Program can enjoy the same services as the other students in our programs. This requires the team to explore what related services are available to the student based on the IEP or Section 504 goals to participate in extracurricular and other nonacademic activities. Each case will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis to provide reasonable accommodations to our special needs students.

Registration Opens:

  • July 20, 2020 at 7:00 a.m.
    • You will be notified by July 23, 2020 if your student has been accepted or not accepted to Community Education After School Program
    • Due to parental feedback and the uncertainty of COVID-19 we will not have a student wait list for the Community Education After School Program this year. Families need to be able to make plans about day care needs as soon as possible.
    • Once a program is full, families will no longer have the ability to enroll in Community Education’s After School Program for that specific site. If the program has room again the school administrator and site coordinator will inform families of availability.

As new developments arise, I will keep you informed as soon as possible through our website where we will guide parents to seek general information about Community Education’s After School Program.  If you have questions or need additional information, please do not hesitate to contact my office at (801) 578-8275 or my Administrative Secretary, Maxine Gilmore at maxine.gilmore@slcschools.org.

With kind regards,

Liz Gonzalez,
