Superintendent's Message 2018-10-31

Dear SLCSD community,

Have you voted yet?  For those of you who have voted, I thank you for doing your civic duty. If you haven’t voted yet, you still have time. Election Day is Tuesday, November 6, and I encourage you to vote.  You can find more information on the State Election website at link to state election Website.

We shouldn’t take our right to vote for granted.  Whether you are voting for a state legislator, a senator, a school board member, or a ballot initiative, your vote matters.  As Louis L’Amour stated, “To make democracy work, we must be a nation of participants, not simply observers.  One who does not vote has no right to complain.”

Many of our students will vote in their first election this November, and my hope is that they come to appreciate the value of their vote. I appreciate our teachers who are talking to students about the importance of voting. It is important that our students know that their voice and their vote matters, and our example in voting goes a long way.

Thank you for voting!

Dr. Lexi Cunningham
