District Lighting Project Honored by U.S. DOE
The district is being recognized for excellence by the U.S. Department of Energy for lighting upgrades in its schools and offices. The district upgraded to LED lighting and wireless controls in 34 schools and three district buildings. The upgrades include occupancy sensors, scheduling, and multiple lighting scenes available in all classrooms.
The upgrades are part of the district’s commitment to sustainability, In 2020, the board adopted a student-led Sustainability Resolution that established the following goals:
- to use 100% clean energy by 2030, and
- to be 100% carbon neutral by 2040.
The district has completed some of the projects, including the lighting upgrades, in our Sustainability Action Plan, which have brought us 22% of the way towards meeting our goals.
