Edison Elementary Students Work to Eliminate Food Waste
Edison Elementary students are turning data into action to combat cafeteria food waste! Through a student-led investigation, they collected valuable data, collaborated closely with school administration, the child nutrition department, and the district sustainability coach. Together with the guidance of student leadership facilitator, Elisa Stern-Kolb, they successfully advocated for the implementation of a share table in their cafeteria. Their efforts didn’t stop there. They also educated their peers and raised awareness about the importance of reducing food waste.
Looking ahead, Edison is working with the Salt Lake Education Foundation to establish a school-based food pantry to further support their school community. This inspiring project showcases how young leaders can create positive change through civic action and community engagement.
