Samuel Bennett Hanson Appointed to Board of Education
This week, the Salt Lake City Board of Education voted to appoint Samuel Bennett Hanson to fill the Precinct 5 Board seat vacated by the passing of Board Member Heather Bennett. Mr. Hanson will serve out the remainder of his mother, Ms. Bennett’s, term. The seat will be up for re-election in 2020. Mr. Hanson was one of nine applicants who applied to fill the Precinct 5 seat.
Mr. Hanson is an alumnus of the Salt Lake City School District, having graduated from West High School and attended Lowell Elementary. He also attended the University of Utah, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Performance and Media.
“I am honored to serve briefly in my mother’s School Board seat and enjoyed the opportunity tonight to share ideas with an exceptional group of fellow candidates,” said Mr. Hanson. “Through my service for the remainder of this term, I hope to fuel a robust debate for the 2020 election on the issues that matter most to the constituents of Precinct 5. While we face challenges in the Salt Lake City School District, we are lucky to have incredible educators and school leaders on our team.”
