The Salt Lake City School District Board of Education has appointed Alan Kearsley as the new Business Administrator for the Salt Lake City School District (SLCSD) and Larry Madden as Interim Superintendent.
Hera Crofts, a student at Clayton Middle School recently competed in the National History Day® Contest. She was awarded “The Outstanding Entry” in the Junior Division for the state of Utah.

East High science teacher Robert Durham has won the Outstanding Public School Teacher Award from the University of Utah.
Last night, the Salt Lake City Board of Education voted to appoint Michelle Tuitupou to fill the Board seat vacancy in Precinct 1. Ms. Tuitupou was one of eight applicants who applied to fill the Precinct 1 seat.

Congratulations to our students at Clayton Middle School and the Salt Lake Center for Science Education for placing at the state history fair competition, and to their teachers Kim Perry and Kelly Haakenson. These students and teachers have worked hard all year for this accomplishment and it is inspiring to see their work.

The Salt Lake City School District’s School Fee Schedules are changing in structure to align with new state rules, and the Board of Education is interested in receiving comments from employees, parents, students, and patrons on the proposed revisions.
On Friday, February 28, 2020, the Salt Lake Education Association (our district’s teachers’ association) has declared a Day of Action. Teachers will be holding a walk-out in the afternoon to encourage the Utah Legislature to prioritize public education funding.

Over the last week, we have spent time with you on our Late Start listening tour, hearing your concerns and thoughts on late start in our high schools. We are grateful to each of you who took time to attend, to our staff members who helped organize and execute, and to all who have shared their thoughts with us via email or in person.

As we approach winter and the stormy conditions that come with it, Salt Lake City School District schools will be open on all regularly scheduled school days unless circumstances create health or safety issues. We fully expect our schools to be open and functioning normally throughout the winter, but weather conditions can vary greatly in different areas of the city.
Winter is temperature inversion season in the Salt Lake Valley. Accordingly, the Salt Lake City School District Board of Education recognizes the effects of poor air quality on students’ health and therefore requires that SLCSD schools follow the Utah Department of Health’s Recess Guidance for Schools.
In an effort to promote our students’ social, emotional, and academic learning, the Salt Lake City Board of Education has made Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) a priority. But what is SEL? And, more importantly, what does this mean for your student?

After two years of planning, design, and construction, the new Edison Elementary opened for students on August 19, 2019. The official ribbon cutting ceremony and open house for the new school was held last night.
