Hawthorne Day of Service

Recently, Hawthorne Elementary partnered with Westminster College for the ninth annual Day of Service. Over 70 college volunteers partnered with 400 Hawthorne students on projects such as tied fleece blankets for patients at the VA Hospital and creating dog treats for animals at Salt Lake County Animal Services. The elementary students and college students also assembled school boxes and hygiene kits, which were given to residents at local homeless shelters.

This day of service was coordinated by Hawthorne Elementary School and the Katherine W. Dumke Center for Civic Engagement at Westminster College, and the resulting projects provided a great service for our community. It was also chance for Hawthorne students to demonstrate the SLCSD Performance Result of being "contributors to the community."
