Board Report for June 3, 2025

The Board of Education began the meeting by recognizing:
- Evelyn Miller from Glendale Middle School and Paula Clemente from Clayton Middle School. Both teachers were named Spanish Dual Language Immersion Model Teachers by the Utah State Board of Education. (watch on YouTube)
- Katrina Stratford from Liberty Elementary, who was named by the Utah State Board of Education as a Science of Reading Coach of the Year. (watch on YouTube)
The board received the following reports:
- A review of plans to include ground source heat pumps in the rebuild of Highland High School, as well as upgrades to the fields at Clayton Middle School and Dilworth Elementary to accommodate Highland High School's softball and baseball teams during the rebuild of the school. The Board will discuss this further at the Tuesday, June 17 board meeting. (watch on YouTube)
The board discussed the following items:
- A proposal to update employee evaluation standards for teachers, social workers, counselors, nurses, and academic coaches. These updates were developed by the district’s Joint Educator Evaluation Committee to align with new state standards and board rules. This item was moved to the action agenda. (watch on YouTube)
- A recommendation to hire an administrative intern at West High School. This position would replace the current half-time assistant principal and would assist with administrative duties at the school. The Board moved this item to the action agenda. (watch on YouTube)
- An update to the Board Handbook. Changes include the removal of the shared governance section due to recent legislation, an updated conflict of interest disclosure, and revisions to emphasize the importance of collaboration. This item was moved to the action agenda. (watch on YouTube)
- The revised 2024–25 budget, the proposed 2025–26 budget, and the proposed 2025–26 tax rate, which does not include a tax increase. These items were discussed and then moved to the action agenda following a public comment period. (watch on YouTube)
The board approved the following:
- A requisition for nursing services, which had been pulled from the consent agenda for discussion. (watch on YouTube)
- Three items moved from the discussion agenda to the consent agenda - the updated employee evaluation standards, hiring an administrative intern for West High School, and the updated Board Handbook. (watch on YouTube)
