East High School is pleased to announce that three East High seniors have been awarded Gates Millenium Scholarships. Inoke hafoka, Anita Kiteau, and Lavinia Uluave will each receive full ride scholarships to the University of their choice. This unusual scholarship is renewable as long as the recipient is in school, including graduate school. The average award is $20,000 per year.
The scholarships are funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and are given to students who are African American, American Indian, Alaska Native, Asian/Pacific Islander American or Hispanic American. Each of these students has attained a cumulative GPA of 3.3 or better and will be entering a U. S. accredited college or university in the the fall. The students have demonstrated leadership abilities through participation in community servie, extracurricular orother activites. The scholarships are only given to students who are eligible for Federal Pell Grants. For further information refer to the website at www.gmsp.org.
