MAGNET (FULL-DAY PROGRAM) Appeal Application and Deadlines
- DEADLINE IS MARCH 31, 2026 for 2026-2027 School Year:
- Online appeal form and survey will open on January 5, 2026 and close on March 31, 2026
- APPEAL FORM – Must be completed to start the appeal process. Can be completed by parent, teacher, principal or school employee who knows the student – ONLINE APPEAL FORM
- SURVEY – We prefer both a parent and a school employee who knows the student each complete a survey to provide the committee with important observational data – SURVEY
- Notification of outcome by April 17, 2026
- DEADLINE IS NOVEMBER TBD for 2nd semester 2026-2027:
- Online appeal form and survey will open on TBD and close on TBD

Intent to Return Forms
Online Intent to Return forms were sent to parents of current 1st-5th grade Magnet students via ParentSquare. Please respond by Friday, January 23, 2026. You can also click here for the form:

If you prefer to fill out a hard copy of the form, you can get one from your student’s teacher or your school’s front office. Hard copy is also due by Friday, January 23, 2026.

Opt-In Testing Application to Reserve a Testing Spot
ONLINE APPLICATION HAS CLOSED
If you completed an online application, an email was sent the week of December 15 to the email address you provided in the application. The email has instructions how to sign up your student for a testing slot. Check your inbox, spam mailbox, and junk mailbox.
- WHO:
- Any Open Classroom Kinder or 3rd grade student
- Any Kinder or 3rd grade student NOT attending a SLCSD school
- Any 6th or 7th grade student
- NOTE: 6th or 7th grade students currently in a SLCSD full-time Magnet program AND 6th or 7th grade students previously eligible but not currently in a SLCSD full-time Magnet program do not need to retest. Check with the Advanced Academics Dept to confirm and for your middle school options.
- NOTE FOR PARENTS OF CURRENT SLCSD STUDENTS: Once you click the link, click on “Apply With Your Parent Portal Account.” If you can’t access the application, this means you have not linked your ParentPortal account with your student. For help, ask your school secretary or see the “Parent” page on the district website. If it still doesn’t work, click on “Apply As a New Student” to complete the application.
- WHAT ASSESSMENT:
- K, 3rd, 6th, 7th grade: Full CogAT with age appropriate breaks
- WHEN SIGN UP:
- Sign up on the website from Sept. 9–Dec. 12. Click on the yellow highlighted link above to access the online application to reserve a testing spot. If you complete an online application by the deadline, you will be contacted after December 12 with information how to sign up for a specific testing day and time.
- ASSESSMENT DATES:
- Assessment dates January 23, 24, 29 & 30. No make-up dates.
