Since 1990, November has been designated as American Indian Heritage Month, a time to honor the histories, cultures, and contributions of American Indians across the U.S. The Board of Education celebrated with a dance performance by a group of Native American students from various district schools.
The recognitions continued with the Board of Education honoring several teachers for recently winning awards:
- Teachers and literacy specialists from five district elementary schools - Bonneville, Ensign, Indian Hills, Uintah, and Wasatch - won the 3rd Grade Science of Reading Achievement Awards.

Judy Wallace from Mountain View Elementary won the Utah Education Association’s Super Stars of Education Award.

Laleh Ghotbi from Mountain View Elementary was recognized as the Outstanding Elementary Science Teacher by the Utah Science Teaching Association.

Dani Bainsmith from West High won the Outstanding Biology Science Teacher from the Utah Science Teaching Association.
Public Comment Period
The board held the second of two public comment periods, allowing community members to provide feedback on three proposals being considered by the board:
- possible closure of Innovations Early College High School;
- closure of the Magnet Gifted and Talented program at Washington Elementary School; and
- possible grade reconfiguration for Nibley Park School.
