Student Fees and Fee Waivers

The Salt Lake City School District Board of Education is committed to providing a free education to all students in grades K–6. For students in grades 7–12, the Board has removed fees for core and elective courses. This means every student has at least one fee-free option available for each graduation requirement, with no payment or fee waiver needed.

Any fees the district does charge are limited to what's allowed under state law, and we work hard to keep those fees as low as possible. When a school does charge a fee, it only covers the actual cost. Schools never profit from student fees.

Fee Waivers

If your family needs help covering a fee, each school has a fee waiver administrator who reviews requests and makes decisions on them. You can find contact information for your school's fee waiver administrator on your school's website or by calling the front office.

We're committed to making the fee waiver process fair, straightforward, and quick. Just as important, we want the process to be private and comfortable, free from stigma, embarrassment, or unnecessary hassle. No one will be able to identify who has applied for a fee waiver, and only a student's own family or parent can help complete their application.
