Update: West High Parking Plan – November 25, 2025.

Salt Lake City School District has worked closely with the design team and community to shape the new West High School. They have been highly responsive to feedback, addressing concerns about traffic, building setbacks, landscape buffers, and hours of operation to create a design that thoughtfully balances school and neighborhood needs. The following are some of the design considerations that have been incorporated.

  • Landscape buffers with trees where space allows.
  • Faculty parking only in the main lot off of 200 West.
  • No event parking on the campus east of 300 West.
  • Student parking is concentrated on the campus west of 300 West.
  • The building height has been reduced from 6 stories to 5 stories to reduce the overall height by nearly 20%.
  • Safety considerations of separating bus traffic and delivery traffic from the parent and student traffic.
  • Bus traffic kept off of 200 West.
  • Delivery vehicle traffic kept off of 200 West.
  • Main school entrance and front visitor parking off of 300 West.
  • Pedestrian bridge being proposed to reduce student crossing at 300 West.
  • UDOT controls all access to 300 West, but we are going to ask for 3 access points (an additional exit only at the alleyway south of Athletics).
