Student Attendance and Safety
Student Attendance and Safety
SLCSD families and community,
For the second Friday in a row, many students across the district have left school during the school day to participate in local demonstrations. Missing school has a negative impact on their education. While an occasional absence may not seem significant, every missed class period is a missed opportunity for learning.
Please speak with your student about ways to speak out on issues they care about without impacting their education. Your support matters in helping students attend their classes every day.
We’re also concerned about student safety. When students choose to leave campus for their own pursuits, we can no longer supervise them. Under state law, school personnel cannot physically restrain students from leaving campus except in very specific situations.
Civic engagement matters. Education is how students gain the tools to engage effectively, and that starts in the classroom. We strongly encourage all students to attend school every day for the full school day.
Thank you for your partnership as we support our students’ learning and success.
