Now Accepting Applications for Precinct 5 School Board Vacancy

The Salt Lake City School District Board of Education is now accepting applications to fill the Board seat in Precinct 5. The vacancy was created following the resignation of Board member Baayd. 

Those who are interested in being considered for the position must have lived within Precinct 5 boundaries (precinct maps can be found here) for at least one year immediately preceding September 2, 2025, and must submit an application by 5:00 p.m. on August 26, 2025. Applications can be submitted via email, in person, or online:

  1. The application may be emailed to Helen Butz (helen.butz@slcschools.org) by 5:00 p.m. on August 26, 2025.
  2. A hard copy application may be submitted in person to Helen Butz in the Superintendent’s Office, located at the district office building, 406 E. 100 S., Salt Lake City, UT 84111 by 5:00 p.m. on August 26, 2025.
  3. The application may be submitted using the Qualtrics form on the district website.

Applications will be screened to verify residency within Precinct 5, and then the board will interview all qualified candidates on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, starting at 5 p.m. in an open meeting. The board will then discuss and take action to appoint a new board member for Precinct 5. A swearing-in ceremony will be held for the newly appointed board member that same evening. The new board member will serve from the time of the swearing-in until December 31, 2026. The Precinct 5 Board seat will be up for election in November 2026.
