The Salt Lake City Board of Education is now accepting applications to fill the Board seat in Precinct 1.
Those who are interested in being considered for the position:
- must have lived within Precinct 1 boundaries (precinct map can be found here) for at least one year, and
- must certify that they are eligible to hold elected office, including:
- certifying that they have never been convicted of a felony, unless the individual’s right to hold office is restored in accordance with Utah Code §20A-2-101.5,
- certifying that they have never been convicted of a grievous sexual offense against a child, as defined in Utah Code §76-1-601(6).
Applicants should be aware that a background check will be completed on the candidate who is appointed by the Board. If the appointee is disqualified from serving as a board member due to the background check, they will be removed from the Board immediately.
Applicants must fill out a complete application by June 21, 2021, at 5:00 p.m. The application is available online and should be submitted via email to Lisa.Alleman@slcschools.org. The subject line of your email must read “Application for Precinct 1”.
The Board of Education is tentatively scheduled to interview candidates on June 29, 2021, starting at 6:30 p.m. Applicants are advised to hold that date open so they can be available for an in-person interview during the Board meeting.
A swearing-in ceremony for the newly appointed Board member will take place no later than June 29, 2021. The new Board member will serve a 1 ½ year appointment from the time of the swearing-in until December 31, 2022. An election will be held in November 2022 to fill the seat through December 31, 2024. The Precinct 1 Board seat is up for election for a four-year term in November 2024.
Those who have questions about the application process may contact the Superintendent’s office at (801) 578-8351.
