Board Report for March 4, 2025

The Board of Education recognized the winners from this year’s Salt Lake City School District MathCounts competition. More than 160 middle school students competed, almost 35 percent more than last year. Congratulations to the winners and all who participated! (watch on YouTube)
The board heard the following reports:
- A list of construction and building maintenance projects scheduled for the 2025-26 school year. Projects are prioritized based on life and safety issues, building integrity needs, instructional needs, and discretionary projects. (watch on YouTube)
- An update on negotiations between the district and our employee groups as well as topics related to the most recent legislative audit. (watch on YouTube
- A review of district technology, including information on the district’s one-to-one computer program for students and our current computer inventory for students and employees. (watch on YouTube)
The board discussed the following items:
- Annual School LAND Trust training, including the timeline for board members to review and approve this year’s School LAND Trust plans. (watch on YouTube)
- A proposal to reconfigure Nibley Park from a K-8 to a K-6 school. The board agreed to consider the issue and to hold a public comment period during its next board meeting. Additionally, the school will hold an informational meeting on the topic for parents on March 12 from 5:00-7:00 PM at Nibley Park. (watch on YouTube)
The board approved the following items:
- Two requisitions, one for computers and one to provide focused student support designed to increase student performance and academic growth. (watch on YouTube)
- A proposal to reorganize the departments in the district office. The superintendent made this proposal at the board’s request and after reviewing twenty years’ worth of district organizational charts and observing district operations for 18 months. The changes are outlined in charts available on the district website. (watch on YouTube)
- A change to the Board Calendar, adding a meeting on Wednesday, April 30, 5:00-8:00 PM. (watch on YouTube)
- District participation in Unified Sports. Unified Sports teams are made up of an equal number of students with and without disabilities and are dedicated to promoting social inclusion through shared sports training and competition. With board approval, the district will now be able to fully support our Unified Sports teams, including paying for uniforms, equipment, travel to competitions, and coaches.(watch on YouTube)
- A consideration of a resolution authorizing the issuance and sale of up to $155 million in general obligation bonds. The actual issuance and sale of the bonds will happen in a future meeting and would be the first issuance and sale of bonds that were approved by voters last November. (watch on YouTube)
The Board of Education also held its first public comment period on the proposed school fees for the 2025-26 school year. A second public comment period will be held during the Board meeting on Tuesday, March 18, 2025. The public hearing will begin at 7:15 PM.
