Since 1990, November has been designated as American Indian Heritage Month, a time to honor the histories, cultures, and contributions of American Indians across the U.S. The board celebrated with a dance performance by the Highland High School Native Club. For the last three years, the district has used federal ESSER funds (which were issued to support students through the COVID-19 pandemic) to support our schools and improve educational outcomes for our students. These funds expired in September 2024 with a carryover provision; our remaining funds will be used to upgrade heating and cooling systems in several schools.
The board reviewed recommended changes to Policy I-3 and its Administrative Procedures and provided feedback to the board policy subcommittee.
The board considered changes to Policy I-5 and asked the policy subcommittee to review the policy again and bring recommendations back to the board.
Fall Enrollment Report Follow-up
The district’s October 1 enrollment and demographic reports are now available on the district website: https://www.slcschools.org/schools/district-demographics. These reports include enrollment numbers for each school and information about student demographics, including race/ethnicity, language(s) spoken, and the number of students experiencing homelessness or living below the poverty threshold.
The board voted to add an additional board meeting in December. This meeting will be held on Tuesday, December 10, 2024.
