New West High School construction reached a visible milestone this week, as crews raised the first concrete wall panels on the building's northwest corner. 

For the past several months, crews excavated and poured footings and foundations, paving the way for the next stage of construction: tilt-up wall panels. 

Rather than pouring wall sections off-site and transporting them, crews are building the panels on-site using casting beds. This cost-saving measure helps keep the project on budget.   

Phase One, which includes the main school building, academic tower, and field house, is expected to be completed in 2030. At that point, students will move into the new building, and Phase Two will begin. 

During Phase Two, the school's athletic facilities will be rebuilt on the west side of 300 West, where the current school now stands. Crews will demolish the existing building but will work to preserve the school's iconic clock tower. If the clock tower is structurally sound, it will remain in place and will serve as the entrance to the new athletic fields. Additional pieces from the original building will also be preserved and incorporated into the new school, honoring West High's long history and traditions as the oldest high school in Utah.
