Dignity Through Bilateral Drawing

A fellow teacher at Newman Elementary, Emmery Stock, informed me of a bilateral drawing exercise that she saw featured on YouTube. In the exercise, students sit across from each other at a table with a large piece of paper taped to the table so it doesn't move. Students have drawing materials in both hands, and then intuitively follow each other's drawing direction, trying to symmetrically copy their partner's move. Our 4th Grade students enjoyed the challenge, and I observed students respecting each other's creativity, which provided an informal bonding activity between students who otherwise may not interact with each other.
