Summer Construction Projects

As summer rolls on, Salt Lake City School District crews are busy enhancing facilities across the district, focused on improving learning environments, athletic spaces, safety, and energy efficiency. Here's a breakdown of what's happening:
High School Rebuilds

Both high school campuses (Highland and West) are currently in the Design Development phase.

Updated cost estimates are expected soon to ensure projects stay on-budget while preserving educational priorities.
Athletic Fields & Sports Complexes

West High Baseball & Softball Fields: Surveying is underway after finalizing the agreement with Salt Lake City Parks & Public Lands; architects are progressing on design.

Highland Fields: Slightly behind schedule, but set to be game-ready for spring 2026. Construction is slated to begin in late May 2026 to align with sports seasons.

Glendale Track & Field: Site surveys have kicked off, and early-stage design work is in motion.

Rosslyn Heights Sports Complex: Turf is fully installed; tennis courts are nearly finished; asphalt grading and final inspections are imminent.

East High Football Turf: On track for 100% completion by July 8.

East High Baseball Irrigation: Point-of-connection work is complete, laterals are being installed, and mid-August completion is expected.
Asphalt & Parking

Dilworth Parking Lot: Asphalt paving is scheduled for this week.

Highland High Lot Prep: Prep work is underway for a redesign of the north parking lots, aiming for completion before school begins.

Bonneville Playground Asphalt: Nearly finished at 99%.

Highland Park Lot: Demolition is 99% complete.
Roofing Projects

Northwest Middle and Bryant Middle are each about 50% complete on $500,000 roof replacements.
Irrigation & Turf Systems

Smart Irrigation installations are complete at Bryant Middle and Horizonte Elementary; Ensign Elementary is on track for completion by the third week of August.
Security, Locks & Surface Work

Crack sealing, striping, and surface sealing have been completed at seven sites.

Classroom security lock installations will occur before the school year, pending hardware arrival.

Highland High has installed window film on the 1st floor and 2nd floor.
Playground Surfacing & Equipment

2024–25 PIP roll coats (protective sealant) will be finished by the end of July at 13 schools.

2025–26 PIP roll coats are scheduled for a dozen schools this summer.

Beacon Heights is expecting a new play structure in late August, with installation beginning September 2.

Planning is underway for replacements at Bonneville, Dilworth, Nibley Park, and Uintah.
Mechanical & Utility Projects

Water heaters at Parkview, Washington, and Horizonte should be operational by August 5.
Room Signage, Tech, and AV

Room signs at Backman and Rose Park Elementary Schools are in process; temporary signage will support students until permanent installations arrive.

Tech upgrades: Paging and bell systems, voice enhancements, and camera systems are moving forward—most hardware has arrived or is in procurement.

Auditorium enhancements include wireless mics (Glendale & Hillside), an audio mixer (SLCSE), and stage LED lighting (Backman & Whittier) currently in quote or PO stages.
Electrical & Infrastructure

West High controls upgrade is substantially complete

Projects at Indian Hills and Glendale controls are entering coordination and planning phases.

Wasatch Tunnel restoration begins this week, with full project completion expected by the end of summer.
