Boeing Award Supports SLCSD Students in Robotics and Space Exploration

Salt Lake City School District students will have more opportunities to explore engineering and aerospace, thanks to a $90,000 award from Boeing International. Presented last night at the Above and Beyond Reception at Gallivan Hall, the award to the Salt Lake Education Foundation will support middle schoolers in Starborn Academy and West High School’s Red Rock Robotics team, which earned top honors at the 2026 Utah Regional and advanced to the FIRST Championship.
The award reflects a collaboration among the Salt Lake City Department of Economic Development, Uplift Aerospace, Salt Lake City School District, and Salt Lake Education Foundation.
Starborn Academy, offered through Uplift Aerospace, connects classroom learning to real-world aerospace careers through hands-on lessons centered on space exploration.
Red Rock Robotics gives West High students hands-on experience in engineering, programming, design, and teamwork through competitive robotics.
“We want every student to graduate ready for careers and college. When a middle schooler explores space science hands-on or a high school student programs a competition robot, they build the problem-solving, design, and teamwork skills that colleges and employers value. We are grateful to Boeing International for opening these doors to more of our students,” said Dr. Elizabeth Grant, Superintendent, Salt Lake City School District.
“This award highlights the value of partnerships between educational institutions, community organizations, and business, showcasing the strength of collaboration in bringing positive change to our schools,” said James Yapias, Salt Lake Education Foundation Director.
