Building a Culture of Dignity – every voice, every day

Together, we honor every person’s worth and create schools where everyone feels seen, valued, and safe.

What is Dignity?

“You matter just as much as I do.”

Dignity means every person matters – no conditions, no exceptions. It’s not about earning approval; it’s about recognizing our shared worth. When we honor dignity, we create space where everyone feels safe, valued, and free to grow.

How Dignity Comes Alive?

Dignity isn’t just a word; it’s action. Here’s how we bring it to life every day.

  • Listening + Empathy = Belonging
  • Openness + Respect = Safety to Express
  • Appreciation + Awareness = Feeling Seen
  • Integrity + Courage = Accountability

KEEP IT AT 5 AND UP!

We aim to keep all of our conversations at 5 and up, where dignity thrives.

Below 5

  • Name-calling
  • Ignoring others

5+ Behaviors

  • Active listening
  • Valuing differences
  • DIGNITY
“I believe everyone is born with inherent worth. I treat everyone with dignity. I value others’ feelings and views, even if we disagree.”
  • CONNECTEDNESS
“I fully engage with others. I’m open to admitting mistakes I’ve made and can change my mind.”
  • CURIOUS
“I ask thoughtful questions and make an effort to learn about others' perspectives, even if they are different from my own.”
  • RESPECT
“I recognize others have a right to be here. Even when it’s difficult, I remember it’s their school, too.”

What is Contempt?

“I’m better than you,” or “You don’t matter.”

Contempt is treating someone as if they are less important, less worthy, or undeserving of dignity. It can appear in dismissive looks, a sharp tone of voice, or the deliberate act of ignoring someone.

  • DISMISSIVE
“I’m better than them. They’re different and annoying. They’re not one of us. We shouldn’t trust them."
  • DISDAIN
“I’m doing the best I can, but those people don’t even try. They’re responsible for so many problems here.”
  • DISGUST
“Some people here just don’t belong. Things would be better if they weren’t here.”
  • CONTEMPT
“I hate some people in this school. They are ruining things here, and they need to go. We should get them before they get us.“

Every conversation, every classroom, every moment is a chance to make DIGNITY real. Together, we can build schools where everyone feels safe, valued, and empowered to thrive.
