The English Language Arts (ELA) Department supports students in becoming confident readers, writers, speakers, listeners, and thinkers. Through engaging, grade-level instruction, students learn to understand a wide variety of texts, communicate their ideas clearly, participate in meaningful discussions, and use evidence to support their thinking.
Our schools provide high-quality literacy instruction aligned with the Utah Core Standards. Teachers help students build strong foundational reading skills, develop vocabulary and comprehension, strengthen their writing, and explore literature and informational texts that represent a variety of perspectives and experiences. Students also learn to evaluate information, think critically, and communicate effectively in different settings.
These skills support learning in every subject and prepare students for success in school, college, careers, and civic life. The ELA Department works with teachers and school leaders to provide effective curriculum, professional learning, assessment resources, and targeted support so that every student can grow as a reader, writer, and communicator.
