Yearly Assessment Calendar

YEARLY ASSESSMENT CALENDAR:

MAGNET GIFTED & TALENTED ASSESSMENTS:

KINDERGARTEN & 3RD GRADE STUDENTS currently enrolled in a SLCSD school (NOT including Open Classroom) are automatically assessed in spring of their kindergarten or 3rd grade year.  No sign-up is required.  Students will be assessed at their school, during the school day.  The ELP Department will contact parents ONLY if student is eligible.  Results will be available in Parent Portal.

KINDERGARTEN & 3RD GRADE STUDENTS NOT currently enrolled in a SLCSD school (including Open Classroom) can complete an online application requesting their student be tested in the spring of their kindergarten or 3rd grade year.  On-line Applications are generally available mid-November through the end of January.  Parents are notified to sign-up for a testing slot.  The ELP Department contacts parents with assessment results.

ALL 6th & 7th GRADE STUDENTS, either enrolled in or not enrolled in a SLCSD school, can complete an online application requesting their student be tested in the spring of their 6th or 7th grade year.  On-line Applications are generally available mid-November through the end of January.  Parents are notified to sign-up for a testing slot.  The ELP Department contacts parents with assessment results.
If your 6th grade student is currently in a SLCSD full-time magnet classroom, they do not need to retest for middle test magnet.  
For Honors advanced classes for rising middle school students, no assessment is needed.  Students can self-select into Honors advanced classes.  Reach out to your middle school counselor for enrollment options.  


NEW-TO-DISTRICTS STUDENTS IN GRADES 1, 2, 4, 5 & 6 enrolled in and attending a SLCSD school (not including Open Classroom) will automatically be tested within the first few weeks of the new school year (August/September).  The ELP Department will contact parents ONLY if their student is eligible.  Results will be available in Parent Portal.

NO OTHER GRADES ARE TESTED.  

NOTES FOR ALL TESTING SESSIONS:
-Students can only test once in a 12-month period.

-If your student was ill or otherwise not in a condition to test at the best of their ability, you must contact the ELP office within 48 hours of the testing session to request a retest.  


Gifted/Talented and High Ability Services

Is your child a rapid learner who put thoughts together quickly?

Does your child have an excellent memory or an unusually large vocabulary?

Does your child have an advanced comprehension of word nuances, metaphors and abstract ideas?

If so, the district’s Extended Learning Program may be a good fit for your child. 

The Extended Learning Program provides academic services for identified gifted and high ability students who are found eligible for services through an assessment process.
