All Salt Lake City School District district offices, schools and facilities will be closed one day each week, starting Friday, June 14, 2024, through Friday, August 09, 2024.

I often say that the Salt Lake City School District will be the flagship district in Utah, but you may wonder what that means.

The West High School Clinic aims to be a beacon of support for the Salt Lake City School District community in addressing barriers to accessing quality healthcare.

We have amazing teachers in our district, and the annual District Teacher of the Year award is a great way to honor and recognize them. Many of our district winners have gone on to win Utah Teacher of the Year and some have even been finalists for National Teacher of the Year.

Thanks to the generosity of Delta Airlines and the Utah Jazz, a group of students from West High School’s AP African American Studies class recently had the opportunity to travel to Atlanta to visit Black History and civil rights sites and museums.

Our Community Education Summer Learning Programs will start on Wednesday, June 5, and run four days a week for six weeks.

The Board of Education will be holding two public hearings in March to allow comment on proposed changes in school fees for the 2024-25 school year.

I want to make sure our community is clear on where we stand regarding these two bills in particular. First and foremost, no matter what legislation is enacted, our schools and district facilities will remain safe and welcoming places for all students and staff and their families.

When I started as superintendent in July, I described Salt Lake City School District as a “gem.” Now, after several weeks of visiting schools, getting to know our employees, and meeting community members across the city, I am even more convinced that our district truly is a gem.

Salt Lake City School District joined with the Salt Lake City Mayor’s Office, the Utah Transit Authority, and the Salt Lake Education Foundation this week to announce the second year of a partnership that provides free UTA transit passes to district students and employees.
