February 15 is an Asynchronous Learning Day
This coming Tuesday, February 15, is our second asynchronous learning day for the 2021-22 school year. On this day, all K-12 students in the district will learn at home. Teachers will provide learning tasks and materials to students in advance. Many of these tasks will not be computer-based and will support students’ learning in the classroom.
The approved asynchronous days are:
- Tuesday, October 5, 2021
- Tuesday, December 7, 2021
- Tuesday, February 15, 2022
- Tuesday, April 19, 2022
These four learning days originated from a new requirement from the Utah State Board of Education for our K-3 teachers to participate in professional development that wasn’t already scheduled into our school calendar. As we considered how to comply with this state requirement, we felt that the importance of helping all our teachers improve their practice, despite these days not being scheduled on our previously approved calendar, made adding four asynchronous learning days our best solution.
We appreciate your support and understanding. Your child’s school will send additional reminders about these days and will share learning plans for each day. If you have any questions in the meantime, please contact TeachingAndLearningInfo@slcschools.org
School Meals on Asynchronous Learning Days
On the four asynchronous learning days, all school kitchens will provide a FREE Grab-and-Go combination breakfast and lunch meal service during the hours of 10 a.m. and 12 p.m. Signs will be posted at each school directing you to a designated pick-up area, normally an outside door to the school cafeteria. School meals may be picked up by students or their parents/guardians at any school location during the designated time of service.
All meal components will be pre-packaged, and milk with be offered with each combo meal. Parents and students can decline the milk if they wish. A peanut-free and meatless entrée substitute will also be available when necessary.
Meals for children with other special dietary needs will be provided upon special request. Contact our dietician, Brianna Hardisty, via email at Brianna.Hardisty@slcschools.org or by phone, (801) 974-8380, to make serving arrangements at least 24 hours before meal service.
