Federal Food Assistance for Families

family looking at food

Emergency food assistance is available for families who qualify for free or reduced-price school meals. These families, and families of students who attend our Community Eligibility Provision schools (Bennion Elementary, Edison Elementary, Liberty Elementary, Meadowlark Elementary, and Riley Elementary), may receive Pandemic Electronic Benefits Transfer (P-EBT) benefits (a pre-loaded grocery debit card) from the federal government.

P-EBT is a benefit to help purchase food for households where children during this school year have temporarily lost access to free or reduced-price school meals due to pandemic-related school closures. This current round of P-EBT is for the 2020-21 school year.

To qualify for this round of P-EBT, students must be signed up to receive free or reduced-price school meals. If you have not applied for free and reduced-price meals, an online application must be submitted and approved for meal benefits no later than May 10, 2021. Go to https://www.slcschools.org/departments/child-nutrition/applications and click “Apply Online” to start the online application process.

More information about P-EBT, including how to apply, can be found at Pandemic-Electronic Benefit Transfer (P-EBT) (utah.gov).
