Question: I am interested in an academic program at a different school. Is it possible to enroll my child in a school across town?

Answer: Yes. State law allows parents like you to apply to have your child attend a public school outside of your neighborhood boundaries. In fact, in Salt Lake City School District we’ve traditionally had about 25% of our students take advantage of this school choice option.

Typically, if there is space in the school you would like your student to attend, you application will be accepted. For the 2023-24 school year, all schools in our district, except for Horizonte Instruction and Training Center, have been declared open. However, the number of students schools can accept will vary by school and even by grade level in each school.

The time to submit an application for the 2023-24 school year is now. Early Open Enrollment runs from November 15 through the first Friday in February. Our Early Open Enrollment application is available on our website. There you can also find more information about our schools and the many wonderful learning options they provide.

We sincerely believe Salt Lake City School District is your best choice in education. All of our schools are committed to the district’s vision of Excellence and Equity: every student, every classroom, every day. Our schools offer academically rigorous classes based on the Utah Core curriculum, hold high expectations for all students, respond to individual student needs, and provide a safe and healthy environment for student learning.

In our district, you will find traditional schools and programs, K-8 schools, charter schools, language immersion programs, and much more. Our teachers are highly qualified, professionally trained, and coached in the use of successful and proven teaching strategies.

Good luck with your decision. If you have any further questions, feel free to call our Student Services Department at (801) 578-8206.
