Superintendent's Newsletter - January 14, 2021

Dear Salt Lake City School District community,

I am happy to report that Salt Lake City School District is collaborating with Canyons, Jordan, Murray, and Granite School Districts on a unified plan for distributing COVID-19 vaccinations to our employees. Our plan is based on guidance from the Salt Lake Health Department, which recommended distributing the vaccines to our employees based on age, with older employees receiving the vaccine first.

Our first employee vaccination clinic will take place this afternoon for employees age 55 and older. We are so excited this day has come. To make sure we use every dose allocated to us by the health department, employees ages 50-54 are on standby in case some employees don’t show for their appointments.

Each week, the school districts in Salt Lake County will extend invitations to eligible employees in descending age order (oldest to youngest) depending on the number of doses allotted to us by the Salt Lake County Health Department each week. This process and plan will ensure vaccine doses are equitably distributed to districts as they become available. We appreciate the collaboration and support between the Salt Lake County Health Department and our partnering school districts to provide access to this vaccine as quickly as possible.

BOARD MEETING

The next Board of Education meeting will be on Tuesday, January 19. It will begin at 6:30 PM and will be streamed on our YouTube channel: www.youtube.com/slcschools. At this meeting, I will be reporting on the mental health services available to our students. I look forward to outlining the resources we offer to help support our students and their families.
