Superintendent's Newsletter - June 2, 2021
Dear Salt Lake City School District community,
My deepest thanks to all of you. Your brilliance and resilience have brought us through an incredibly tough year. It has been an honor to serve as interim superintendent in the district I love. And while I never imagined ending my career during a pandemic, I am privileged to have navigated this year alongside all of you.
We are at a moment of opportunity. Our world has been turned upside down by the pandemic, windstorm, earthquake, and social unrest. These events have made many of us step back and look closely at some of the practices we have taken for granted. Now, we have the chance to make something positive out of this. Let these events be the catalyst for great change -- change that improves the system for everyone, that finds ways to better serve those who have struggled even prior to the pandemic.
I have been very fortunate in getting to spend quite a bit of time with the incoming superintendent, Dr. Timothy Gadson, and that time makes me very optimistic about the future. He is thoughtful, kind, and he laughs easily. He enjoys the work, understands how wildly complex it is, is forward-thinking, and is very supportive of his fellow educators. You will be in excellent hands.
I wish you and your students all the best.
Larry Madden
Interim Superintendent
Salt Lake City School District

SLCSE-Bryant Vaccination Clinic
We are excited to announce that, in partnership with the Salt Lake County Health Department, the Salt Lake Center for Science Education – Bryant (Bryant Middle School) will be hosting a COVID-19 vaccination clinic tomorrow for students ages 12 and older and their parents or guardians and other eligible family members (must be age 12 or older). Community members are also welcome to attend.
The first and second dose clinics are scheduled for the following dates and times.
-
1st dose: Thursday, June 3, 2021
9 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Registration Code: e113a486 -
2nd dose: Thursday, June 24, 2021
9 a.m. – 12 p.m.
It’s important for those who would like to be vaccinated to pre-register. The health department will use pre-registration data to determine the number of vaccine doses that will be needed. Pre-registration information and the necessary forms, available in many languages, can be found on the district website.
Making vaccines readily available is one more tool in our COVID mitigation arsenal, and we are excited to offer this opportunity. Thank you, parents, students, and families, for all you’ve done to help us keep our school communities safe this year.
