Board Meeting

REPORTS

 The Board of Education received a report on the study conducted on three possible changes:

  1. the potential closure of Innovations Early College High School;
  2. the potential reconfiguration of Nibley Park School from a K–8 school to a K–6 elementary school; and
  3. ending the 4th–6th Magnet Gifted and Talented program at Washington Elementary School.

The report reviewed enrollment trends, financial information, the history and purpose of each school or program, and other key factors.

Next steps include gathering community feedback during two public comment periods on October 21 and November 3, and a public hearing on November 3, 2025, all held during regular board meetings. The district is also continuing to collect online comments, which are shared with board members. (watch on YouTube)

• The board reviewed its membership in local and national organizations that provide training and support for school boards. The discussion focused on national organizations that focus on the needs of urban school districts and the possibility of joining one of those organizations. (watch on YouTube)

• Staff presented the annual report on the district’s sustainability goals and projects from the past year. They also reviewed the possible costs and benefits of different ways to heat and cool schools. (watch on YouTube)

DISCUSSIONS

• The board discussed feedback about possibly requiring more credits to graduate and/or creating a “Diploma of Distinction” that would require a minimum GPA. Student government classes helped gather feedback on these ideas, and results from a survey of students, parents, and community members were shared. The board will continue this discussion at a future meeting. (watch on YouTube)

• The board reviewed proposed Administrative Procedures for Policy P-14: Salary Supplement for Highly Needed Educators (SHiNE) Program. The new policy was approved earlier this year to meet state requirements, and these procedures are designed to put it into action. This item was moved to the action agenda. (watch on YouTube)

ACTION

• Three items were moved from the consent agenda for more discussion, and they were each approved:

  • Board Meeting Minutes from September 16, 2025, with amendments made;
  • LEA Educator Licensing and Endorsements, with amendments made; and
  • Phase 2026 Sustainability Projects.

• The board also approved the Administrative Procedures for Policy P-14: Salary Supplement for Highly Needed Educators (SHiNE) Program. (watch on YouTube)
